| For me it would be telling them I had a second job when I didn't. I used it as an excuse why I didn't visit for months because I was broke and life was sucking a great deal. | |

| I lived such a vanilla life at home there was usually nothing to lie about. However, at 16 I was in the club car with a good-ol-boy friend of my fathers and we had a few beers and I got quite drunk (almost went to Chicago instead of St. Louis - the train splits at Carbondale and the club car goes to Chi. I barely got back to the StL train)
Anyhow, I staggered off at Union Station StL and my mom asked if I had been drinking and without even thinking said NO! (I know I reeked of beer) She didn't even say anything.

| I've never really lied to my ma. I've kept things from her when I was younger, but never flat out lied about anything big. As I got more older, I enlightened her on things I've done, we really just laughed. | |

| I don't remember. I never really had a reason to lie to my folks. | |

| I remember I told them that I was staying after school to attend a club, and instead I would go to my friend's house and hang out after school--- then would take the "late school bus" home meant for the kids who stay for extracurricular activities | |

| Telling them that I failed the exam to get into Catholic High School. I passed with flying colors but I didn't want to go to Catholic school anymore so I lied and told them I failed the test and applied for public school. They eventually found out and my Mama was not very happy about it. | |

| The problem with everyone in town knowing my grandparents was I couldn't get away with much. The dialog went like this "Suzi I hear you were down on El Paseo street" "Gee gramma , Didn't I tell you about that? I know I told Lilly". Oddly I got away with it. El Paseo wasn't really as bad as Gramma thought, it had pool halls and arcades. Gramma thought pool halls were for sure owned by the devil, and she wasn't overly religious. The skating rink (which was OK was also there. I still can't play pool, I can try but "ladies do not play pool, is so ingrained into me" that I am absolutely terrible at it.
The worst of the "I hear" stuff was so well meaning. "I saw Suzi down at the park (El Paseo/the store/etc.) yesterday, my goodness she is such a pretty girl", or "My goodness she is growing up so nicely" etc, so I couldn't even get mad at the people who told on me.
