| If you want your kids to know about sex, talk to them about it. | |

Exactly. Nobody ever promised parenting would be easy, or always be fun, the idea of being a parent is the hard shit falls on YOU to teach your kids about because that is YOUR responsibility. I get so sick of people saying parents have no business teaching their kids about sex because sabes que 'they're not professional teachers so they don't know anything and don't know how to teach their kids', well look at the shit these people are teaching the kids. Read the comments section, one mother said her daughter's school education on periods was red fluffy stuff, what the hell? Try blood and great big black clots. And when SHE told her kids about sex, this being AFTER the school told them about sex, they were disgusted because they'd never heard about that kind of stuff. Anybody who thinks the schools are actually doing their jobs ought to take off the rose colored glasses and actually find out what the hell is going on down there.

I suppose it still is if you can't afford the medications and I hear they are blooming expensive.

Eventually EVERYBODY'S timeline has an arrow pointing to a tombstone that reads 'RIP', and also if we're going to be teaching kids anything, we need to do it right and let them know that treatments ARE out there and the sooner they can start them if they become infected, the better and that it is not an entirely lost cause.

| Also, the purpose of sex-ed is to prepare kids for sex when they have it so they are not blindsided by diseases. It is a problem now that so many ppl with AIDS have quit dying in droves, but it is still often fatal even with the modern medicines.
So prevention and safer sex practices need to be taught, not moralizing and unrealistic "don't have sex" crap. Even the realistic approach of advocating masturbation was met with resistance by religious fanatics.
We live in a sex-negative society and ironically our sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancies are much higher than the sex-positive societies who have no qualms about educating their young in the realities of life.

| This is true. I've never gotten the people who think if you teach kids about sex, it'll just make them run out and do it, because I never got how explaining about the risks of pregnancy, or of getting AIDS or an STD, and knowing some are curable whereas others are only treatable, etc., would make anybody anxious to just run out and get laid. As a kid I always knew if you had sex you could get pregnant and one thing I KNEW was that I was NOT going to be a 13 year old mama. | |
