The world's largest welcome mat?
Yes, Suzi, I figure it has something to do with gold mining.

Re: What's your city famous for?
There is a ghost town not too far from us, of course now a thriving tourist area in the summer. This whole area was known for gold. That welcome mat is known to be the worlds largest gold pan. One of the things we like about the town is that it is attractive. Flowers abound during the summer,as you can see from the picture.Lots of trees, grassy areas around the town are kept mowed and flower beds weeded. The town does a good job. They also do a real good job of snow removal in the winter.
During the depression a friends parents in fact came to a community not too far from here to pan gold. Not the worst idea in the circumstances. A lot of cattle get raised here too, as well as mining and the forestry but you would never know it from the obsession with the golden past. Gold mining ventures pop up here from time to time, in fact another friend just got laid off from a mine that while they did find gold they didn't find plenty of backers.
