I'm pissed. Last week one of my coworkers named Ivan came out of the break room to find an older employee unconscious and bleeding from the head---laying in the middle of the main walkway. Ivan got on his cell phone, called 911, and told another employee to stay with the man. He walked to the office to tell management and no one was in the office. 911 told him to go back to the patient to assess his condition. While walking back, the big manager in control of the 1500 employee building started yelling at him to get off the cell phone (cell are against policy in the building). 911 is telling ivan to get someone to open the front gate---as we need magnetic ID badge to get into the building. A supervisor needed to open a special door to be able to get a stretcher in. In the meantime, another employee who is an LPN was called to assist. She someone for a cloth to put pressure on the bleeding and asked the fallen man if he could hear her. The manager then approached screaming at everyone to return to work, and still yelling at Ivan for being on the phone with 911. Ivan argued with the manager to open the door for the paramedics, and eventually had to get another supervisor to do so. The manager then threatened everyone to return to work--- they literally had to step over this man's body. The LPN said she felt like she was stepping over roadkill.
The manager never took witness statements or a list of names, and never returned to the witnesses to inform them of the man's condition. The following night, Ivan approached the manager and said, "We need to talk about whatever problem you and I may have. If you have something against me we need to resolve it because last night someone's life was on the line." The manager looked at him, then said, "You're acting stupid" and walked away.
all of this occured just two days after we received service talks about treating eachother with respect, dignity, and trying to resolve workplace conflicts. WTF???
