    Not cards, my mother brought us up to always write thank you letters to people when we got anything, and I still do at my birthday and Christmas when the family sends cards and presents.

    Not with family and close friends. I use the telephone (not email) to thank them if they didn't hand me the gift. I will send a card to people I don't know that well.
