Yesterday I took my car in for a tune-up, and inside the mechanics lounge were Playboy magazines on the table (and yes I looked.) In general, would you consider it poor taste for businesses to keep adult magazines on display?

Is it distasteful for businesses to have nudie magazines on the table?

I was just gonna say barber shops, mechanic shops and places where mostly men congregate fine. But the new PC ppl get all over offending women. There was a time when any hardware or auto parts store had girlie calendars on the wall. It was expected in a simpler defined time. Now, not so much.

I say it depends on the businesses. Now you'd expect a garage to have the sports car/motorcycle/whatever magazines with the naked women on them, that's just good promotion.

In certain environments it could be but I wouldn't be surprised about seeing skin mags at the mechanics office.

No, I don't think it's very professional. I've seen repair shops with centerfolds hung on the shop walls and have you ever seen some of the calenders from some auto parts or tool companies? In the shop is one thing put not where customers congragate.

Probably is to a certain degree, but it depends on the type of business it is and who tends to come in and out for me to find it wholly offensive.

I guess if the primary customer base is male then it's whatever. But women take their cars to mechanics too and have to wait in the lobby while it's being serviced..

No, I don't think it's professional. If customers want to look at nudie magazines then they can do it on their own time at home.

Nope. Unless it's a strip club, let's leave the nudity to Internet porn, please.
And not just in the interest of women...not a lot of men would like to be sitting next to a lady with a cheap end table embellished with nudies separating him and her.

Not professional at all. Many people have their kids in tow while sitting and waiting for their cars, men and women alike, and is that the sort of "reading material" that should be around in mixed company?
Yes, there was a time when that sort of stuff was/may have been acceptable, but with the way the world is now, it's just not politically correct if you want your business/company to be taken seriously.

It's not in good taste to have them on display, but for the most part I don't care. If anyone finds them objectionable, then they don't have to bother thumbing through them.

I am sure some places could get away with it but to me, it just makes me think that the business is unprofessional.

For the most part yes, I consider it in poor taste.

Poor taste probably but it wouldn't bother me really.

At least it was just a magazine. I took my car to get a flat changed once and as soon as I walked into the garage, on the wall was a large poster of a bare breasted woman. I joked with the guy asking him how much would she have to pay for a new tire. It wasn't a big deal, but yes I consider skin mags in a business environment to be tacky.
