To wear I prefer white metal. Stainless, Rhodium or White Gold. (Silver turns black)
On my wife I prefered gold, because it looks so good on brown skin. I used to buy her gold jewelry.

Now I may be wrong but this seems to hold true for me... I was told that if worn daily silver jewelry will not turn black. The oils from your skin helps protect it and keep it for oxidizing. I found a silver ring that I LOVED but was worried about how it would turn. So the jeweler told me about how good silver can be kept from oxidizing if worn daily. My silver heart ring is perfect... I have worn it since I got it and it has not turned black except in the middle of the crevasses. I recently put two other silver rings on I got at an Indian jewelry show years ago. It was pretty tarnished. I put silver cleaner on it and it still had kind of that dull look to it. After wearing it, it has brightened up and isn't tarnished. All are stamped 925, I won't buy any less of a quality when it comes to silver.
I used to hate silver jewelry, now I love it since I get better quality and my skin doesn't turn black
I also have a white gold wedding ring from my Grandma, I love it. I don't like yellow jewelry at all. If any man asked me to marry him with a yellow gold band... well that's proof he does NOT know me well, lol!

I think some ppl just tarnish silver more than others. Altho, in the '70s I wore a lot of silver jewelry (rings on every finger, a bracelet and amulet) all handmade by a friend who was a silversmith. Quality of silver content could have made a difference.
But I actually prefer the look of white metal more than yellow metal (except on brown skin).

I worked in Indian jewelry when we were in Arizona, and yes if you wear silver all the time it doesn't tarnish. You can buy a liquid tarnish remover, but if there are stones in your silver jewelry you want to rinse it very very well. Tooth paste and a toothbrush also will clean silver pretty well. We used a combination of sudsy ammonia, water and dish detergent on the jewelry in the store. It also shined the silver very well and got a good rinsing too.
