Another Premarital Sex Query

If a couple has premarital sex and gets pregnant, should they automatically get married like back in the old days???

No, that's not what a marriage should be based on. (And it's another of the many reasons I am against Pre-marital sex)

I haven't heard of any shotgun marriage being a happy one. You get married out of love, not obligation.

^^^^I say you get married out of love, commitment, and proper understanding of what it is that marriage is. If any of the three are missing, the marriage likely won't be happy. Just "love," isn't enough.

That always ends in disaster. Strange that some think that marrying is doing right by the child because kids need a mom and a dad (as if not being married negates the mom and dad from being these roles). By the time he's 4, he's gonna know full well that mommy and daddy don't really like each other and by the time he's 10, they're gonna be divorced. A friend of mine got pregnant by her boyfriend a few years ago and as her pregnancy went on, their relationship was headed more and more south. She was talking about breaking up with him to me and another of our friends, and the other friend argued not throwing the relationship away saying "think about the baby!" I'm like WHAT? Stay in an unhappy relationship for the baby, that will be good for him to be in the middle of.

No, not at all.

But, at the same time I would hope that they learn from it and make better choices for future sexual partners and birth control methods.
