Anna Karenina
Movie Blurb by Shale

This is based on a novel about a tragic love affair in Imperial Russia, written by Leo Tolstoy in 1874. I am into costume dramas, and since I had not read the novel, figured this is a good way to get some culture.
The story plays out pretty much like the synopsis I read of the novel, but the movie is almost surrealistic since it employs all the elements of a play in a 19th Century grand theater.
The story, for those like me who haven't read "one of the greatest novels" as so many have called it, involves the longings of a woman living in the social constraints of the late 19th Century. IDK how this story would have played out in 1974, but probably not the same as it did in its time & setting.
I enjoyed it overall, and now I know the story of Anna Karenina. The stage to real settings were artsy and kinda fun to watch, since we are watching a musty, old story from another era. Tho human passions are universal and timeless, differing societies make for different outcomes. And, that is why I enjoy watching costume dramas.
