At this moment would you say that you are living above, below, or at your financial means? How do you today compared to ten years ago?

I am right where I want to be not over and not under. It was a bit over 10 years ago.

I live a fairly frugal lifestyle, my biggest discretionary spending is DVD's and movies (and tats).

I have managed to save a little above my living expenses and have been sending $300 a month to help out my unemployed daughter.

I am living completely within my means now. Ten years ago, I was so broke (not from crazy spending, just not making a lot of money and was living alone with my son) and close to selling things to pay bills.

I definitely make more money now than I did ten years ago. I live at my means.

Sometimes I hover a little below or a little above, but usually I stay at the center. The goal is to live just below, but I'm not always good about that. Ten years ago I still lived with my parents and was splurging with my money, so I guess you could I was beyond back then.

Pretty much at. Our retirement funds don't go as far as they did, food prices are skyrocketing. As the US dollar is sinking the Canadian dollar is rising that is hurting us too as we also have American retirement funds. Our pharmacare didn't kick in until a month ago. We will start having to pay the whole shot come the end of March. That runs 500 to 600 bucks a month. Normally when Pharmacare kicks in we can save for other things like house insurance, etc. I really don't know how we are going to do it then, I think we will have to take more out of our retirement savings per month. Part of the problem with the prescriptions was a darn fool Conservative Prime Minister who cared more for the pharmaceutical companies than he did Canadians.

We were skimming through until last month when the dish washer did.

Suzi... what is pharamcare? I always thought canadians got free health coverage... are prescriptions not covered?

This year kinda sucked... being out of work the first part of the year really put me behind. i am finally coming out from under the rock because of the holiday overtime. Hopefully by Feb I will be completely back in my comfort zone Smile

It depends on the province , yes our medical care is covered by the insurance we pay. We pay $116.00 per month total and covers both of us (because our radical right wing provincial government has twice raised our rates in the past few years). However that does cover all dr visits and and hospital care , blood work and some eye care. today I am having a CT scan , and hubby is having some follow up care after his cataract surgery. Then Fair Pharmacare is dependent on income as determined by our tax returns. It kicks in for 80% after we spend a certain amount, then later after we spend another amount it kicks in 100%. If a person is too poor the province pays the insurance and all prescriptions. As long as we have this provincial government things will not improve. They call themselves Liberals however they are as right wing as the Conservative federal government has become. We are supposed to have a provincial election in the spring it was supposed to have been earlier until our Premier (like governor) realized they were so unpopular. We will make another wild swing and end up giving the NDP (my preferred party) a majority and I am totally against giving the government a majority it turns them into dictators. But we can count on the NDP to take the people into consideration first rather than the business people.
