Dying your hair. Empty Dying your hair.

Post by Chris Wed Aug 11, 2010 4:38 am

I'm considering doing it, because I'm starting to find sporadic gray streaks. They're not immediately noticeable, but if you look closely you'll find a few streaks. My GF pointed it out tonight, although I was already aware. I'm afraid that by the time I'm 35, I'll be salt n pepper (and while some people go for that look, it's not one that I want applied to myself.)

So enough about me, have you ever dyed your hair?

10 years ago I dyed it this weird black/red color. From a distance, you couldn't tell that it was dyed and it looked black...but up close you could see a red tint to it.

Nope, as a kid I wanted to, wanted to try blonde or black, then weird stuff like blue highlights or purple, but my mother was always reminding me it would take 6 months to fully come out and that was a long time to be stuck with a color I didn't like.

Yes for a long time I covered the grey as it got greyer and greyer. But I haven't now for about a year. I find that grey hair gets me a seat on the bus, doors held open and clerks asking if I want the Senior discount.

There are perks when your hair matches your age.

When I was in my early 20s I bleached my hair to a strawberry blond. Used actual H2O2 and lemon juice with sunlight.

I was in the service then it may have been agains regs but no one said anything. Could be they were too scared to say something.

As for you Chris, I think you should go with the salt & pepper. It looks distinguished even on young men. Natural goes a long way in looks on men.

My hair started graying in my late-20's. I imagine it's a lovely silver now, based on the roots. My hair has a very unique characteristic in that it's always been lighter underneath rather than on top like most people's, and it still comes out that way despite the dyes. Sometimes my braids have a two-toned look which is not intentional.

Anyway, I keep mine dark brown. Tried auburn several years ago but wasn't comfortable being classified as a redhead. Tried a chestnut color later but it would fade lighter than I like. 'Guess I just like being brunette.

As much as I dislike gray hair, I also get sick and tired of dying it.

I used to dye my hair when I was in my teens and early 20s, but then stopped. A few months ago I found some gray so I might start up again as soon as the problem progresses.

Been dying my hair since I was about 16, just got it highlighted earlier this year. I can't afford to get my roots done right now, I got about an inch and a half new grow, so I'm just gonna go to walmart and get an at home kit to match it to my natural color.

    I've been every colour possible....
however haven't coloured it for about 7 years now.
I have a similar issue, with some greys sprouting through, contrasted with my very dark brown hair (use to be almost black sad ) those pesky greys stand out.

Yeah, I've been dying my hair since 19. In my family, the hair goes gray and fast. I'd figure when I'm in my 40s, I'll use a lighter shade and slowly allow the grays to come in.

I have mine highlighted to blend away the white ones. I used to dye mine all the time just to pump up the color because it would get a mousey-brown look to it, but when it grew back in after chemo there was tons of white ones. Rather than fight it, I decided to try and work with it, so my hairdresser does the foil-highlight where sections of hair are stripped of color, then re-colored with something much lighter than your natural shade.
