| I truly feel sorry for the powers that be involved in the snow day decisions. People complain either way.
One time this year, they called it the night before and they got shit for that. The news even did a segment with all these parents saying, "But the kids love to play in the snow at recess."
They just can't catch a break. I feel like people need to have a back up in case there is an inconvenient snow day and if school is in session, disgruntled parents should just keep their kids home if they feel it is unsafe to ride the bus.

| Schools must err on the side of safety. Those parents who give them grief over closing for bad weather would be the first with lawsuits if a school bus slid off a bridge in unsafe road conditions. | |

I always think the same thing, Shale. People are going to be the squeaky wheel no matter what decision is made. Off topic, but this morning the Today Show was in your neck of the woods, Shale. I was thinking of you and totally jealous of the wonderful weather!

Psst...kids love being able to play in the snow the whole day even more. It's the parents that hate scrambling for someone to watch their kids while they're at work.

| As a parent, snow days generally don't bother me. The few times my daughter school has been closed for weather conditions, it just happened to be on a day when either I or her mother was off. Or on a day that the weather was so bad that one of us called off for the same reason. So it's never been a situation of 'Damn, what are we gonna do with her today?!'
Maybe it's just the kid in me, but I've actually been happy for her when she got to stay home. I remember how much snow days used to thrill me.

This morning, the home phone was ringing before six and my son was already up and getting clothes out of the dryer. The call was the automated "no school" call and I got to tell him. It was as if he won the lottery! I never get to be the one to break the news to him anymore because when there is the threat of bad weather, he sets his alarm for five and turns on the news to see for himself! Today, the phone woke him up and he must have forgotten because he was downstairs getting clothes.

| I only had to deal with snow days for my kids once and I would have appreciated if I'd gotten a call the night before that there wasn't going to be any school the next day. Any time they can give a heads up, it would be much appreciated. It's not so much about wanting them to attend through sleet and snow, it's more about giving parents notice to prepare. | |

They just can't catch a break. I feel like people need to have a back up in case there is an inconvenient snow day and if school is in session, disgruntled parents should just keep their kids home if they feel it is unsafe to ride the bus. Here, they often times will announce it the morning of. Growing up we would listen to a local radion station and they would usually announce snow day or snow days schedule by 6 am. Today, people look online for those announcements, and they still won't announce it until the morning of. Only if it's a really bad storm, will they call off school the night before.
