Depends on where one lives. Definitely wouldn't want brick in parts of California because of earthquakes. But they're good in tornado areas. As for personal preferences (how they look) I like either/or.

Keep in mind that most modern "brick" homes are just a brick veneer. The exterior walls aren't made of solid brick and most of the house is still "wood". A combination of both (wood and masonry) is pretty cool.
