Question The popularity of right wing/conservative pundits.

Post by Chris Fri Feb 22, 2013 3:51 pm

On the surface we're living in a society that is progressive, and the news media tends to be generally liberal. That being said, why do you think right wing conservative pundits and talk show hosts (Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, etc.) are popular?

I predict whatever popularity they do enjoy is going to wane in the not too distant future as their fan base dies out.

Question Re: The popularity of right wing/conservative pundits.

Post by Forgiveness Man Fri Feb 22, 2013 6:59 pm

Precisely because the media is so liberal and the progressive society is self-destructing. haha We have a media that blatantly skews news for it's leftist agenda. A liberal society has proven itself to be mindless, selfish, and immoral. There are plenty of intelligent people around who want to hear other intelligent people. Hence, the popularity of talk radio. (Hence, why liberals are so threatened by it. It has an audience and they don't.)

I think it baffles people why conservative talk radio is so popular in our society but it doesn't baffle me, and I don't even like talk radio, for the most part. I just see how hypocritical and hateful liberals are. And I see how conservative pundits are exactly the opposite of the hateful adjectives the left uses to describe them. It makes sense that they'd attract the vast audience they do.

But I suppose we can continue to let the libs live in lala land about the issue. Why not? Libs in lala land is excellent material for said hosts. Wink

Because others who are afraid to say those same things get to bask in them saying it for them.

There are a lot of conservative asswipes that they appeal to.

Those of us who live in the enlightenment mindset forget how much a minority we are. We congregate with likeminded ppl but I'm afraid we are outnumbered by the benighted backward thinkers, who follow Medieval ideas.

Look at all the stupid laws that we live under and that the majority of Americans agree with, from the lack of civil rights for certain ppl to the idiotic drug laws that cause the United States to have more ppl imprisoned than ANY other nation on the planet, including outright dictatorships.

These are seen as good things by conservatives. But if you give thot to it...

I don't think they're really that popular. They may be loved by their audience but the audience itself is narrow. From what it looks to me, most people dismiss them.

They're only popular to their fan base and are bold enough to say the crazy shit that most people in their fan base won't or too afraid to say. I actually admire the boldness of such folks, but it still doesn't make them any less stupid. The only scary part about it is that you KNOW they're are a lot of people out there who think just like them, you just don't see them.

i honestly think that BOTH sides are so skewed.. that we arent watching news anymore.. it is completely opinion. If one says a catch phrase.. you hear it repeated for the next week by every other.

I used to listen to Rush, then call in and argue with him. So much so that they stopped taking my calls. I used to listen to Dr. Laura on my drive home from work... OMG!! Some of the things she said were so twisted that I had to just laugh at her. However, I read an unauthorized book about her and her "true self". It was one thing listening to her when i thought she believed and lived as she preached, but when i found out that it is mostly just a show... she wasnt as interesting anymore.

same with rush... wants to criticize everyone but is a pill poppin junkie.

    screw them all

Ann Coulter is an idiot who built a career out of being an outrageous asshole. Not remarkably different from Limbaugh.

The title is pretty much self explanatory.

But I agree with W2L, "screw them all"

Thanx CeCe. I have never actually seen Ann Coulter. WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT. Why do ppl listen to her? How do you get that prominent being so stupid?

Srsly, I work with intellectually disabled adults and I'd like to know how she got that gig because we are always looking for supported employment for our clients. I have a couple of mildly retarded ppl who would do better in a debate than her.

BTW, I know it has to be extremely frustrating to commentators who have to deal with her. I really liked the audio of the last one who told her off. (The FCC probably liked it as well and didn't press the language issue)

Well, they get tens of millions of listeners every week. That's arguably more than most programs of any sort get. So they are no more dismissed than anybody else. (If you wanna talk about somebody people dismiss, that would be just about every major news outlet. haha Or politicians in general. Razz )

I think most people dismiss everything these days, to be honest. I don't listen much to Rush but I don't dismiss him either. I dismiss the Democratic pundits, like Ed Schultz for radio or Bill Maher for TV. Those are the ones who are truly irrelevant, IMO.

I should start a talk show and get a special line for wants2laugh to call in and disagree with me! big grin

No... we could do a co- show... and call it "WANTS FORGIVENESS" and bitch about all the politicians! bear hug

I have avoided ann coulter for years... but that segment was hysterical... mixed couples have a chip on their soldier and christians are going to improve jews to fast track them like federal express!

WTF was she thinking. I think that the right tried a burst of young females trying to attract men to the party... men will follow va ja jay anywhere! lol... that is what palin, coulter, and that other nut --- michelle whatever the hell her name was... bachwipe??? lol that is what they were all about. looks. not one can hold an argument or are informed on anything... i dont even believe that any of them have their own opinions on anything... it is like they just spew the utterances of other ppl... not fully understanding what they are saying.

The Crats ain't much different. Most of them seem to have a literal script they use in every speech. Debbie and Axelrod are completely interchangeable in terms of what they say. Obama SOTU was practically a rerun. The Crats seem to read the same words every speech and their mindless followers believe them. Even though 8 years later, we still don't have all the goodies they promise. Razz

Although I do admit that GOP female politicians are better looking than Crat ones. Razz So we can use the eye candy trick better than them. Crats have to resort to promising free stuff the country can't afford to pay for even if we took all the rich folks' money. Razz So it's eye candy, or empty promises for free stuff. lol

You wanna cohost? Razz Fine. But I pick the theme song! Razz Luv the title, btw.

It really isn't surprising that conservative radio has a greater audience than liberal programs. Considering that the bad old biased liberals have taken over TV and movies and print media (as the right wing whinning goes) it's just natural that they should fill the only outlet left to them. That spot on the AM dial. Considering how elections have been trending though, it doesn't look like they're very influential. Just good for whipping the Pubes into a frothy frenzy.
