A lot of people have had to give up their dogs over the years because their own economical status took a sharp turn for the worse and they couldn't afford to keep their pets anymore. I think it could be a good idea, they gotta eat too. | |

| They can practically do it now from what I hear. If they give them MORE money for Fido's food, I'm willing to bet Fido ain't gonna see a dime of it in most cases. No to more government money.

| NO. All social welfare programs are stretched as it is.
There are probably other charities that focus on animals and those should be contacted - otherwise a pet is a luxury that you can live without. (Srsly, there are groups who spend thousands of dollars in medical expenses on stray dogs who are not concerned about the health of ppl) | |

| I think if someone wants to start a private organization to offer help to people that's fantastic. But government subsidized? No. | |

| wow... i cant believe this was even thought of!!! i love animals.. my dalmatian was my kid.. i spent $8000 for her to live an extra two years.
BUT -- HELL NOOOOOOO!!!! I'm a federal employee who cannot collect state disability even tho i pay into it. So maternity leave, or hospitalization needs to come out of my sick leave or vacation time. WHY would i want to pay for someone else to have an animal? Pets ARE a luxury like shale said. So what is next? should we establish medicaid for vet bills???
and before overpopulation of animals and kill shelters are discussed... guess what.. if owners were responsible, they would have their spayed/neutered and we wouldnt have the kind of problem we would now. NOW that im thinking of it... our local shelters offer free spaying/neutering for low income ppl's pets. i have enough bills.. i dont want anyone elses | |
