| DC is a mostly urban area surrounded by Virginia one of the Old South States which probably has a gun for every person in the state.
Until there are some national sane gun laws, urban laws are mostly ineffective in curtailing lunatics and sociopaths with guns. We had one such law against military assault rifles but our politicians were bought off by the NRA and let it expire in 2004. That is when the stats show how effective it really was because the killings with those guns did increase since then. | |

| DC is just bad... period. When you park in a garage, there are signs up that say "you are located in a metropolian area. please be aware of your surroundings to prevent car theft, mugging and other crimes"

i kid you not, this was a sign i saw often. That's a really cool heads-up to some of the small town and rural rubes that come to that city unaware of the evil that lurks there.
They really need such signs in all metropolitan areas but most chamber of commerce will raise hell if you tell the truth to outsiders that every city dweller knows. | |

i thought that it was just the marriott's way of sayind "not responsible for cars/item" blah blha blha.... but i saw it in several parking garages, restaurants. SAD and scary that is what sums up our society
