Thought I would share some American vs. Italian common words used today. The Italian language is fast fading here in America and its old style traditions:
Mozzarella Americans say Mozza rella
Italians say: Moot sa ella
Ricotta, Americans say Ree Cotta
Italians say: Ri Gawta
Ladle is American, Italians call it a Coo pee na (Cupina)
Dish towel is American Italians call it a Mup Peena
Basil is American Italians call it Vas in ee gall
Tomatoe sauce is American Italians always call it Gravy
