Willow Smith has a new song out called "Whip My Hair." I can't believe I'm this impressed, she actually has swagger. She's only nine, and sounds like a teenager.

Is it bad that this song has me jammin? LOL

Willow Smith can officially start throwing up the Roc now that she’s has whipped her new single into a record deal with Jay-Z.

Hov went to “On-Air With Ryan Seacrest” to announce that he addedWillow to the Roc Nation family after hearing her breakout single,“Whip My Hair.”



“We at Roc Nation are excited to work with Willow,” Jay-Z stated. “Shehas an energy and enthusiasm about her music that is truly infectious. It’s rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity atsuch a young age. Willow is about to embark on an incredible journeyand we look forward to joining her as she grows in all aspects of hercareer.”


Much like the rest of us, Jay was astounded to find out how talentedWillow is at only 9-years old. But, if there is anything that he’slearned, he knows that pop icons get a very early start on theircareers—just look at his wife Beyoncé! 



"I believe that you have to start somewhere, and when you have thatsort of talent and vision, there's no such thing as too young,” Hovpointed out. “Again, I heard the record without knowing who it was. ...We all danced to Michael Jackson records when he was 8. Stevie Wonderstarted at 8, it's just what it is, who she is."


After spending her whole life in the spotlight, Willow had such apoised and professional presence durin the interview, so it’s hard toremember that she is so young. Sometimes, it’s a little challenging forher to deal with all the attention.



“It’s very, very amazing, and it’s very overwhelming,” she said.



Jay, who calls himself the “Berry Gordy” to her MJ, also compared hersound to Rihanna’s. He said it we didn’t! Just two days after “Whip MyHair” dropped, the track has gotten all kinds of love, but some peoplestill want to know what it’s about.



"It means just be an individual. Like, you can't be afraid to beyourself. You have to be yourself, and you can't let anyone tell youthat that's wrong,” Willow explained. “My mom and me are very strongindividuals and I just know that, because lots of people, they don'tact like themselves, so they're not happy."

^^^ I guess. The record industry is such a joke now. I mean, I like the little song, it's catchy and everything....but are you really going to compare her to a 12 yr old Michael? (Kanye shrug)

I'm still skeptical of Willow's foray into a musical act, but to her credit she pulled off this first attempt. I was slightly impressed by the song, and I don't cringe at the video (I assumed it would be akin to Sesame Street Live.) Still not won over, but I'm not ready to gong her yet either.

I think so too. I'm wondering if they didn't digitally alter her voice on WMH to sound deeper and more sophisticated than it actually is.

on a side note: WMH is #4 on iTunes, so girlfriend got her a little hit w/ this. Let's see if single #2 gets this much buzz.

This is her performing on Ellen, wasn't too bad actually. She was singing along with the back track obviously, but her voice didn't sound too off from the record.

Yep, she didn't do bad at all. Like I said, she definitely has a lot of charisma.

This song is stupid. The kid has no talent. Just goes to show you, they'll give anyone a record deal.

10-year old R&B singer Willow smith has her eyes set on the prize. The “Whip My Hair” singer wants to be as big as pop star Lady Gaga…maybe even bigger.

"I would like to be a very well known artist.” She tells NME Mag. “I would like to be as big as Lady Gaga. I would like to be bigger. I'd like to be a big rock star."

The daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith might just get her wish.Her single “Whip My Hair” has garnered phenomenal responses from both young and old fans. Plus the track is on its way to the No. 1 spot on the UK singles chart, outselling artist like the Black Eye Peas.

While Willow, who is just ten years old, describes her fledgling career as "awesome" she added the responsibility of being a singer sometimes means she has to make sacrifices in her social life.

"The hardest part is wanting to hang out with your friends when you have to work,” she says. "My friends will come over and you're recording and you're like, 'Pleeease let me go with my friends. I don't wanna stay here!' but people are relying on you."
