Does sex on the first date increase or decease the likelihood on a real, on-going relationship developing afterwards? If you've had sex on the first date, how likely is it that it becomes a relationship versus you never seeing them again after that?

I think more times than not it is going to lead to a short lived romance, but not always...depends on the couple.

Depends on how long you talked before. If you go to a club or hook up with someone some night for the sake of sex, then you most likely will never see them again after. The whole point was to have sex that night. Plan executed. If we've been talking for a while, have a decent enough rapport that we've gotten to know each other, but then have sex the night of our first official "date", then chances are we'll see each other again if it was good.

I think it kind of depends on the couple. I think sex on the first date would definitely work out if they had been just friends beforehand (a friendship that turned romantic, etc.), but sex on the first date with a person you hardly know? I don't believe in that and I think the road ahead is going to be a very short one.

Intuitively, I would think that sex on a first dat would reduce the chances of a meaningful relationship.
Ironically, I never had sex on the first date, but made one exception, and we have been together for seven years now.

Depends on the couple. Been together since 1977. Longer than some of you have been born.

You can note nobody's picked the middle road on the poll yet, and here's why, if sex alone could bond people, experts would NOT advise against it when you and your spouse are fighting all the time.

For the most part, I think sex on the first date is nothing more than booty call.

More likely than not it's gonna be just a one night stand I think.

Sex on the first date is like reading a movie spoiler IMO.

Wow, where has this 3-year-old thread been hiding. In 2010 I woulda said that I never went on dates and that 2 guys quite often have sex on first meeting, usually a one-time tryst.

However, since then I have gotten involved with a guy who is quite romantic tho also will do a pickup on first meeting him. Which is exactly what we did when he came onto me at the beach, went to my place and had sex.

BUT, he made a date to see me a week later on my B'day and we spent the day together on SoBe, then back to my place for sex. This was in November.

He just got back from Italy and we have already gone out on three more dates since last week - so this has turned into more than a solitary one-time tryst.

So, I don't think sex on the first 'date' necessarily affects the outcome of a relationship.

There were a few times when a second, third or forth date happened after, but for the most part it usually didn't go farther than that that one night.
