The thread about the mental illness got me to wondering this. If you were dating who told you they had HIV, would you continue the relationship and if you did, would you ever be willing to sleep with them?

I don't date, but I do connect with guys. I have had friends who were HIV+ and we even had safer sex together. It is doable. I am still HIV neg. You know "on me not in me" kinda stuff.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, I have no idea. My first reaction is telling me "hell no" but it really would have to depend on the person and how much I really liked him.

Honestly unless you have the medical records of the person you're with, you have no idea if they're HIV-positive or not. That's the whole point of safe(r) sex. If you've been with more than 10 people, chances are you've laid down with someone who had an STD! But if you wrapped it up every time, then the chances of having caught anything from them is very low. Not saying it wouldn't weird me out, or that I wouldn't have reservations, but if she were honest about her status, I wouldn't immediately dump her or shy away from intimacy. I would just be all the more proactive about protection.

I would date a man with HIV, yes. You can't get HIV from casual contact (as everyone knows), but when it would come to sex (if we came to that point), I would be very careful and always use protection. I'd approach sex with him, but very carefully and cautiously.

That being said, if I actually did have a relationship with a man with HIV, I'd be scared to death that I would fall deeply in love with him and be completely devastated if he passed away while I knew him. God, I can't imagine how horrific that would be.

HIV is an absolute monster, but it's victims are not. It makes me question whether God really exists. If he does, he has a lot to answer for.

No. I would feel like a jerk for breaking it off, but break it off I would. It sounds selfish, but ultimately it's completely reasonable for a HIV- person to not want to be involved with someone who is positive. They have a considerably different lifestyle that revolves around managing a disease that can be communicable.
