You think parents ought to raise kids with the expectation or idea of their someday marrying? I personally don't. Kids grow up and will see it, will know what it is and that it's an option, but I don't think parents should be leaning them in that direction. It's almost like brainwashing. Instead of saying "One day when you get married", like my parents did, they should say something like "If you ever get married..."

    Not an expectation.

Nope. And I'm so glad my parents....mom especially, don't question me about my love life. I don't get the 'when are you getting married and putting some beans in that oven' speech. My mom told me that she thinks I'm too young to have kids right now, much less get married. I wonder if it will change once I'm in my thirties, however.

Marriage & even kids should be optional, never an expectation. It may even be a significant contributing factor in the divorce rate if people only marry because they believe it's something they should do in life.

I think it's wrong. If a kid wants to get married, then they should, but to push a kid in a certain direction is wrong - there should never be that expectation. Whatever makes the kid happy is what they should do, whether marrying or staying single.

I hope my son marries one day, but don't expect it. Unmarried to his dad myself, I would be a hypocrite if I expected it of him. In fact, I often wonder/worry if my choice will affect him.

No. And speaking as someone whose parents habitually pester him about it, I have to say that it not only is annoying, but is also somewhat belittling. As if your life can, or won't, be complete until you are settled into marriage.
