Mama's Family

Hilarious show, always cracks me up. Anybody else a fan of Mama?

I ADORE this show and have ever since I was little. Still waiting for them to release season 2 on DVD!

Iola was my fav.

My brothers love that show. Me I don't care for it that much.

Oh, man. I loved this show. Wasn't it on early on Saturdays? Maybe I was only seeing it in syndication? I loved it! Haven't thought about it in years. Thanks for the memory!!

My ALL TIME favorite show. Vicki Lawrence should have won Emmy's for her role as Thelma Harper. I really wish would release the rest of the seasons on DVD!

Pretty funny show at times but was never a favorite. More like something to watch when you just happen to catch it.

I LOVED this show, watched it every day when I was a kid. They need to put it back on TV, or get around to putting the second season out on DVD and continuing from there, because the show didn't really get good until Bubba came along.

Sorry if there's been a thread for this show before, I don't remember seeing one.

Who remembers Mama? I love that show, I used to watch it every day when it was on, and now it's not on TV and the ONLY season that's been put out on DVD is the first one, the FIRST one, when everybody knows things don't even get really intersting until Buzz and Sonja are gone and Fran is dead and Bubba and Iola come into the picture. I love this show and I miss it. Thankfully the episodes are up on Youtube so that's some consolation. But I wish it'd come back on TV.

With all the cable channels it is crazy that some of these older shows that people liked can't be on one time per week. It must be a bear for networks to work out syndication deals. I am guessing the cost is too huge to just pick up numerous shows and run them one time a week. That must be why when a network picks up a show in syndication they run it back to back, airing two episodes.

I remember watching this show when i was a kid. Mama is my favorite character and had me cracking up.

One of my all time favorite shows. As far as the earlier NBC seasons with Fran, Buzz and Sonja vs. the later first-run syndicated seasons with Iola and Bubba goes....IMO, the latter was better. I will say that the BEST NBC episodes are superior to the BEST syndicated episodes....however, the WORST NBC episodes are also worst than the WORST syndicated episodes. In general, the later seasons had a much better flow to them.

I just watched the bloopers on YT,it had me in laughter than the show itself.

I love Mama's Family it definitely had me laughing a lot. I love the last seasons more than the beginning.

Agreed, it was a lot better when Bubba was around instead of Buzz and Sonya, they were okay but they weren't good, they weren't really funny, Bubba was funny.

Yeah exactly! I didn't really pay attention to Buzz & Sonya either and the early years I only found a few episodes that really got me laughing the later ones a very different story. Bubba, Iola, Naomi, Vint and of course Mama the best cast. Although I noticed in the early seasons though that Vint wasn't dumb and didn't do dumb things I wonder why that changed in the later seasons and he also sounded different too, not that I'm complaining I'm just curious.

The syndicated cast was much better than the first, I agree. The earlier seasons had moments that were gold (usually when Betty White and Carol Burnett guest starred) but it also had episodes that were completely dry. Buzz, Sonja and Aunt Fran added nothing to the cast. They were dull props. Bubba and Iola were funnier and added to the show.

So what's your favorite episode?

Mine is Vint and Naomi's wedding.

One of my favorites is Bubba's House Band with the Bone Crushers! LOVED those girls.



Another one I love is when she won't pay the electric bill because it's higher so they shut off the power.

And also when they plan to tear down the houses and Mama rides the wrecking ball.

And then of course when Bubba makes a video for his film class.

Also when Mama decides to go back to school and they have to read The Scarlet Letter

and the Courteous Crook episode too

but one I REALLY love is when she brings Effie home from the hospital and tries to rehabiliatate Effie herself...I just love when she's trying to get Effie to eat and reminds her of when her mother was in the hospital and she told Thelma to take her home, but the family didn't want the trouble so she stayed in the hospital and never came out. For a show that was primarily supposed to be funny that was a very somber and important moment in its run to me because my family knows what that's like.

Supernova you picked some of the best ones and some of my favs too..I also love the season finale when Naomi has her baby and I also love the one where Bubba & Mama work at the same job, I also love the one where Naomi loses her memory and Mama tries to make her the prefect housewife, also love the ones the one where Mama's watches that little boy for the reveard and also that little baby while Naomi and Vint are at work. I have alot more, but I can't really think of them at the moment.

I like the episode where Naomi talks to Dr. Joyce Brothers about Vint's erection issues. Hilarious!

Mama on Jeopardy

"Mama" lasted a very long time. I remember when Vicki Lawrence was playing that character as a skit on Carol Burnett and then it got transformed into a show of its own.
