RED (Plus More Characters) Empty

(This is the weirdest board. Topic Titles must be at least 10 characters long - so you can't post movies with only 3 letters.)
RED
Movie Blurb by Shale
October 15, 2010

This was the likely choice of my movie this week, for two reasons. I am always up to graphic novels being adapted to movies - they seem to do that so well. And the cast of this movie:

John Malcovich - Bruce Willis - Helen Mirren - Morgan Freeman

The whole thing opens with retired CIA black ops agent Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) trying to connect with Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker) a phone service girl at a Kansas City check distribution center by tearing up his pension checks and telling her they didn't arrive. They are developing a relationship and he is about to meet her in KC and she seems receptive. However, all of a sudden a hit squad with great firepower attacks Frank one night. Of course he escapes and goes searching for whomever it is at the company trying to kill him and why.

Meanwhile we see a current black ops agent William Cooper (Karl Urban) showing us some of the ruthlessness that these guys practice while talking calmly to their family on a cell.

Meanwhile (and I use that term again because this movie reads like a comic book), Frank goes to get Sarah because he knows the hit squad would go after her too, just to clean up loose ends.

In all those meanwhiles there are moments of gun battles, things blowing up and people getting offed. Frank meets up with a couple of other old operatives on the way; Joe (Morgan Freeman) the oldest who is living in a senior facility where he delights ogling the nurses butts and Marvin (John Malkovich) a man with serious psych problems from being pumped with experimental hallucinogens and who is hiding out in a swamp. These guys were the top of their trade while operatives and now their career records are kept in highly redacted files labeled RED (Retired Extremely Dangerous)

After one of the gun battles they need to take refuge in Maryland in the home of Victoria (Helen Mirren) a most proper British operative they knew back when. Of course everyone from the agency is paranoid that their old black ops friends have come to get rid of them, but they all get back together, leave retirement and go back to work doing what they know best.

When it is apparent that they must break into the CIA Headquarters at Langley, Frank needs the help of Ivan Simanov (Brian Cox) an old Soviet operative that they had encounters with years ago. (Who else would have the entire security system of Langley?)

Oh, almost forgot, another leading actor, Richard Dreyfus plays one of the bad guys (Are there really any good guys when everyone is an assassin?) There is even a small role for Ernest Borgnine as a CIA Records keeper.

Well, that is about all you need to know about this movie. The story is a stretch but it is there to accommodate the action and the characters all play off each other like they are really having fun. It was a fun PG-13 movie aimed at adolescent boys - my kind of flick.
