| The older I got, the better our relationship got. We're pretty close now but for distance. As a kid though? Not so much. | |

| I ask this question because for the most part I simply can not relate. My father passed away in 2004 but before he did he was must best friend. We were less father and son and more Junior and Senior. As a kid he was DAD....(in every sense of the word) my pop was my example and my standard setter. It usually puts me a at odds with my peers. | |

| Ghost, good to know that your Father was so amazing.
My dad is nice to me and loves me, but doesn't take a huge interest in my life. And I really think it is because he doesn't know how to.

| Glad you had a good relationship with your father. My Dad and I never got along, we still don't, he does not like me very much and I am not overly fond of him either. He is old now and I take care of his needs and try to avoid most conversation because we always end up in a fight. It makes me very sad that my father and I never had any kind of relationship, but in his mind he thinks he was the model father to which I laugh out loud.

| It's been worse, but it still remains poor overall. | |

| Yes. When I was a kid, I thought he could do no wrong. But as I got older, I started to see more and more what my mother was saying about him. He disappoints me sometimes, but it's never anything serious. And he's also taught me a lot. Just about life and business in general. I get my sense of worldliness and politics from him. I'll do anything for him. I love my father dearly. | |

| Peaks and valley's, but decent overall. The older I get, the more I understand and can appreciate his personality. | |

I was afraid of him as a kid - it was the generation that felt OK with beating the child. He and my mom divorced when I was about 5 and I only saw him every other weekend growing up.
When I became an adult, we got along better. My dad was an outlaw and so related to me when I grew shoulder length hair and hung out with "Hippies." He figured it was young man prerogative to explore everything. Didn't hurt that his third wife was about my age and she told me about his dope smoking youth.
However, our politics were polar opposites and I can remember once while we were riding in his pickup in Mississippi and he was going on about Reagan that I had enuf and actually shouted at him. We were both shocked by the outburst and remained silent for a while. That may have been a turning point in our relationship.
We became civil with each other in his old age and I visited occasionally. So I guess we had a pretty good relationship.
Just talked with my "baby" brother on his 40th B'day and we joked about things we do that make us our father. That is upsetting. This was powerful man. Thanks. My dad had 9 of us and it always seemed like he was there. Coming up I used to get embarrassed that he was always there because none of my friend's fathers ever showed up....and when I grew older I realized they didn't have fathers. I understood just how blessed I was.

| Yeah, I have a pretty good relationship with my father now as an adult, but an adolescent that was a whole other story. He has always been an individual whom wants others to know how he feels on everything including things that doesn't have anything to do with him. I'm the polar opposite, so we butted heads a lot while growing up. Nowadays, we can both have decent conversations about just about everything. | |

| Shale, on a smaller scale, I think my dad actually understood more about me last year when at his kitchen table, with his two friends, the subject of health care came up. I think that, then, Dad fully understood my business. I went from somebody who was hocking her intelligence to uninformed clients, to a business woman who paid for her own family private insurance and had to work to avoid overhead. | |

| I have always had a horrible relationship with my dad. He was and still is a stubborn, hard hearted bully who picks on people. When I was little he used to call me a sissy and once he ordered me to sit and watch football with him. When I said I didn't wanna watch, he slapped me. I remember just sitting there silent in front of the TV next to him, tears rolling down my face and eyes glared. Finally my mom came and got into a fight with him over it. I was able to get up, but was promptly ordered to go to my room and go to bed. It was still light out. All because I didn't wanna watch sports with him. At times growing up I truly felt hatred for him and even wished him dead. When my parents were married and would always fight and separate, I would be thrilled when he'd leave the house and upset when he would soon come back. Today our relationship is nonexistent because he knows he can't tell me what to do anymore so he doesn't say anything.
I would never treat my son like this.

| Me and my old dude are cool. We had our little rough patches here and there, but we good for the most part. With him, I stop getting the 3rd degree at about age 15. If it ain't an issue, he won't make it one. On the other hand, moms meanwhile still try to get in my head, ask too many questions and analyze every little thing I do. | |
