What charities/causes do you give money to?

I give to the Baptist Church in the town I lived in in high school. Other than that, not a lot...just a few cents to the buckets outside the stores this time of year.

I don't usually give to charities. I help out with donations when there is some major disaster like the Haiti earthquake (and years ago, same thing in Turkey).

I have been a member of the Southern Poverty Law Center for years. They keep track of and take hate groups to court, shutting some of them down by suing for damages.

I also have been a "card carrying member of the ACLU" since before Geo. Bush Sr. made that derision.

I used to give to more over the years and this time of year realize how many mailing lists I'm on. I think I need to send some support to a clinic in India I once volunteered at. Other than that, I donate to family members who are unemployed during this "recession" that is growing into depression.

The Salvation Army.

I give to the Indian Children's school and the disabled veterans.

Even tho I had surgery in the Booth Hospital in Ahmednagar India, I can't bring myself to donate to The Salvation Army or Catholic Charities due to their stances on homosexuality, among other things. While I'm sure they do good in certain disasters, I cannot separate support for their charity from my support for their org as a whole.

Also the Boy Scouts of America, when they are outside my grocery store. Luckily they don't approach me directly (could be they know not to) or I would tell them why the BSA does a disservice to the boys it lets in as much as the ones it keeps out.

Compassion International for me - child sponsorships with them - as well as my church. I'll also give to things like Muscular Dystrophy when the firefighters do their boot drive and I'll usually give to Samaritan's Purse at Christmas. Also co-sponsor a little boy with a friend but that's through World Vision.
