I took off this Veterans' day - after two perfect beach days were wasted while I was stuck at work. So, spent a couple of sunny hours at the beach then a couple hours in theater watching a movie. A good day.

This movie is about Becky (Rachel McAdams) a work obsessed young TV producer of a New Jersey morning show. She has no life because she is in bed early to be up and at 'em before the 4:30 a.m. show airs. She also doesn't know that cell phones can be turned OFF! Despite all her good work, when the company is taken over by a megacorp she is replaced by their guy.

She sends out multiple resumes and is finally called in by Jerry Barnes (Jeff Goldblum) to helm DAYBREAK a faltering morning show. Morale at this place is nil and everyone knows they are at the bottom of ratings, including co-anchor Colleen (Diane Keaton). Her counterpart Paul (Ty Burrell) is a self-absorbed, sort of pervy type who is just too full of himself. He has to go so now Becky is tasked with replacing him with no budget.

Enter Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford), long-standing serious news anchor recently replaced by a younger more fotogenic guy, but still under contract to the station. Becky gets him transferred to her show and of course he is thrilled.

The rest of the movie involves the relationship between Becky and the irascible self-pitying old anchor as she tries to boost ratings and keep the show on-air.

There is also Becky's attempt at an intimate relationship with Adam (Patrick Wilson) a co-worker at the station who is familiar with Pomeroy's cantankerous nature and tries to assist her.

I like romantic comedies for the mindless entertainment that doesn't require too much emotional involvement or deep thot and this one was good because of the four main characters.

Harrison Ford who looks much older than his Indiana Jones of just a couple years ago plays the old grump quite well off of Diane Keaton. There was more focus on Rachel McAdams' relationship with Ford than with Patrick Wilson her love interest. So, I guess it was more about the comedy than the romance.

It was a good way to enjoy a nice weather day off of work.

Harrison Ford has another one coming out next summer called Cowboys and Aliens. It's directed by Jon Favreau with some other familiar faces.
