Are you gonna be in the stores the day after thanksgiving? People make this out to be some sort of stampede shopping day, but I can't remember the last time a Black Friday happened that didn't get reported as being some sort of "down from last year" event. When I worked at Mervyns in 2005, they had me come in at 4:30 the day after Thanksgiving and wound up sending me home early because the traffic wasn't as hype as they expected.

Maybe people are getting over the gimmicky "sales" and abandoning the ridiculous tradition.

Yeah pretty much. The jig is up on those 5am, "first 100 people in the door" sales. If I want something, I can have it ordered and shipped to my house. No need to stand in long lines.

^^^^Definitely! Black Friday is hopefully fading away.

No way! I never go shopping on Black Friday. In fact, I never even leave the house on Black Friday unless it's absolutely necessary. I hate crowds and I hate the claustrophic feeling of being in a crowded store. Not to mention I hate the traffic as well.

If we don't go to my dad's, I am for sure going. I steer clear of electronics on BF because they always seem to be poorly made. Even the name brands. Either I have bad luck, or they make the cheaply sold items cheaper than normal.
But, I still like to be part of the hustle and bustle of it all.

No way no how, last Black Friday I got stuck in a traffic jam in a parking lot for almost an hour. I hear some of the stores are opening up at midnight.

Negative. Not going anywhere near a department store that Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I'll resume my Xmas shopping on Dec. 1st.

I like drama. So if – but only if – I happen to be up early Friday morning (I'm off), then I may cruise over to the mall to get into some shit. But I'm not setting my clock or anything.

The last time I bothered with a Black Friday was 14 years ago when I took my brother and cousin to the mall to see SPACE JAM (boring movie BTW, we all fell asleep in the theater). The place was a zoo! After the movie we stopped at BK inside the mall and even the line there was out of control. No way am I stepping into that kind of cesspool again.

It is so interesting how some people love the hustle and bustle of the big shopping days and others avoid it at all costs.
I actually love it, but can see my patience wearing thinner with each passing year. I am all for a good deal, but people acting like animals over a $5 toy is sick.

That happened to me on Xmas eve once. Again I don't know why anybody would wanna march in the Black Friday circus. Sales are gonna be on from this Friday through the first week of Jan. (when everything is slashed even more).

Unless the stores are having 80+% markdown's, you couldn't drag me out on Black Friday.

In Canada, Boxing Day is the "crazy shopping day" but many stores are now offering "boxing week" sales, so it's not as crazy as it used to be but if you brave the crowds the day after Christmas, you can still get some pretty amazing deals. I'm not into it. I won't camp out starting at midnight and wait for the store to open at 8 AM. I'll go out later in the day, when things have settled down a bit, but only if there's something I want. I won't go just for the sake of buying.

No way. I never go anyway, and I already have most of my Christmas shopping done thanks to second hand stores and Amazon. I am not getting up at 4 A.M. when it's 15 degrees outside to go to a store where there are a million idiots pushing and shoving and knocking the store workers down to get 70% on something.

Looks like lots of Canadians were heading south to take avantage of Black THursday and are coming back with great deals. All the news stations had feature stories on them and one ESL group actually based a field trip around shopping south of the boarder.

Me and 2 of my friends went to the mall yesterday just to look and take note but didn't buy anything. "Black Friday" is gonna be going on until Dec. 23

LOL - that's a long time! I think part of the reason the sales are extended is to try and cut down on the madness. I can't remember when the Boxing Week sales started in Canada, but more often than not, that's the way stores are going now.
