Would You Date a Transsexual?

Post Op. transsexual, meaning their surgery is fully complete. They are physically now all woman or all man. Would you date someone who used to be the opposite sex? Not to sound judgmental but I wouldn't.

I would. Not sure I would or could get really serious, but I would date.

I only know that because I know a young woman who is in the very beginning stages of the change, due to her parents' advising her to go slowly with all of it. I have known her for years and really like her. So if I was single and her age, and she is as cool as a man as she is a woman, I would date her. But I think it would be easier in that situation because I would have known her for so long, prior.

I am asking out of curiosity, not judgement, but don't you think that dating helps a person figure out what they like and don't like in a mate? Maybe you would meet "Sue" and she is a writer and likes everything you do, right down to favorite movies and ice cream flavors. And, alas, you think you have found the perfect mate.

But then, after months of courting, you realize that it is rather boring to have someone just like you, and would like to find someone with varied interests.

Now, I am not assuming that you are holding out for the female version of you, just giving an example. I think dating folks we wouldn't marry is to help us recognize our ideal mate when we meet him/her.

I might be terrified if I met somebody as twisted a writer as I am.

But in all honesty, I think having the proper frame of what marriage is and is supposed to be would help avoid the feelings you mentioned. (Although by your example, if we get bored and the relationship ended, at least we learned something.) The novelty will eventually die down so before you enter marriage, you have to build it on something more than feelings or "things you love about them."

I am not saying that you have to marry the first person you date. I just don't believe in dating somebody I got no intention to ever even consider marriage with. Why would I? I honestly do not see benefits to it. It just seems like a waste of time at best.

The "ideal" mate is an illusion, IMO. I might have a lot of trial and error before I find the one I can commit my life to. But I don't want to delay finding the right one by wasting time with somebody I know I do not wish to go anywhere with.

So somebody who used to be a man, it would be a dealbreaker from the start.
