Re: Is obesity a disease?
I suppose it is. Obesity --> addiction to food --> addiction --> "disease." but I have less sympathy for those diseases largely fueled by bad habits that can be changed.

For the most part, hell no. Obesity can certainly lead to "real" diseases like diabetes but just because you can't stop putting food in your mouth doesn't qualify as a disease to me.

It's more a condition than disease.

Re: Is obesity a disease?
No. Obesity more times than not is brought about by something that IS in your control. Millions of people get cancer who don't smoke, people get diabetes who aren't obese, people even die from tropical diseases who were never even in the tropics. To me it's like saying you have a disease if you're an alcoholic. You don't get the disease until you start knocking back drinks, how does a disease work like that that you have to specifically do one thing to get it and you can't get it any other way?

Unless they have thyroid issues or some other uncontrollable condition beyond them that contributed to their weight, then no it isn't. If they're morbidly overweight because of poor eating and inactivity, then they don't have a disease but rather a SITUATION that is controllable.

No - but I consider it a condition. ITA with what others have said, so I won't bother repeating.
