Do you think companies should enforce drug testing before hiring new applicants, or have random drug testing during employment?

Hell no. It's a violation of the fourth and fourteen amendments. If someone comes to work obviously stoned, then just fire them.

I don't see it as being any more of a violation than perspective employers having the right to look up your credit history. If someone is applying to operate a tractor or some kind of heavy machinery, then drug testing is a MUST!

Drugs are illegal, and I think that employers should have the right to randomly test. I know someone who owns a roofing company. One day, he moved his workers jacket over in the truck and a pot pipe fell out. So, the guy was smoking it at work and up on a damn roof! The guy ended up begging for his job back and was told that he would have to be willing for random drug testing, if he was hired again, and he declined.

Drug testing ain't a violation of anything. Employers are usually private firms and therefore have the right to scrutinize the mindset, behavior and background of who they hire. Furthermore allowing an addict in the workplace can put them in a position of liable.

I think it depends on the job...piloting a jet, filling prescriptions, operating heavy machinery, that kind of stuff, yeah I could see it as being a good precaution but for a janitor or a bag boy or a dishwasher? I don't know.
