Have you ever been out in public with your family and embarrassed by them in some way (behavior, the way they looked, etc., etc), or embarrassed to have one of your friends come around in the presence of your family? The former, not so much, but the latter has happened before.

Do they now? Not so much. Did they when I was younger? Oy Vey! Whenever we went out to dinner with my grandmother, she would always empty the breadbasket into her purse. She was a pistol. When I was 10 or so, she and I were on an elevator with some stranger. Just before our floor, a familiar, noxious odor fills the car. As the door opens, she hustles me off and turns to the man and says very indignantly, “What a dastardly thing to do!” When we turned to leave she tells me she needs to stop off at the ladies room.

Teens seem to always be embarrassed to be seen with their family.
When our daughter was a teen we lived in Miami on Biscayne Blvd. Our Friday routine when our 8-year-old nephew lived with us was to go to Cozzoli's for Pizza. Me, Brenda and the kid would walk together down the Blvd and the teen would be half a block behind us.
One day, Brenda and I just turned around and ran back to Rosalyn, screaming about how she was our lovely daughter then hugged her right on one of the busiest streets in the city. Hey, if you are embarrassed, might as well have a good reason. I think she stayed close to us on subsequent walks.

Thankfully no, or at least not that I can remember, but I do think it's a pretty normal part of growing up.
