Big Wedding or Elope? Empty Big Wedding or Elope?

If you were getting married, would you want it to be a big fancy wedding with lots of family and friends there, or would you be ok with eloping and having a quickie ceremony at a JP/City Hall?

Elope. I am not spending thousands of dollars to have hundreds of people I don't want around in some grotesquely decorated church or wherever.

Big weddings are, IMHO, more a show for the spectators than the couple. The thought of spending six months trying to plan every little detailed chicken recipe and seating arrangement leaves me cold. Just as soon as we got the license, it would be fine with me to head on down to city hall before a judge.

I had a big wedding (for people of our means) and I hated it! If I had it to do over I would elope.

My wife and I were married by a notary in Miami and had three ppl attending, a couple from her work who served as witnesses and her teenaged daughter. We had wine and pastries at our house for those and a couple other friends from my work.

We had been living together for three years, seemed kinda ridiculous to have a medieval ceremony at that time.

I don't want to get married, but if I did, I would want something nice but not over the top. I would love to have close friends there to share it with us and a small destination wedding would leave too many out for my liking.

Go down to City Hall, then have a nice reception later. I'm not going into debt over a fancy wedding.

Weddings are a spectacle. Not to sound cheap but I always prefer it when people I know run off and elope because it saves me from having to buy a gift. LOL

It's ridiculous that people put more time effort & money into a ceremony than they do the marriage. Add to that starting the whole thing off deep in debt.

LOL Robbie laughing A friend of mine eloped last year and I still was compelled to buy her a gift after the fact.

My wife and I went the traditional route (except the minister was a woman). I think we had about 120 people show up. We saved for a year or two to pay for everything ourselves. Everybody had a great time.
