| Do you think we'd be better off for it? Hate to sell out my gender but I think we would be. Certainly wouldn't be any worse! We wouldn't enter into futile wars with other countries. I'm sure gays would have full legal rights & equality. Immigrants wouldn't be treated with such scorn and contempt. Women budget better than men so the economy would probably be better off. | |

| I don't think there'd be much difference, really. Even if women held the more key positions, they'd still have a bunch of men in their cabinets to answer and trying to pull their strings. | |

| Good point, Chris. I think if enough women held key positions of power and enough positions in cabinet to have a real say and make sure things got attention, you'd see a change. I think issues related to children and families would be more prominent. It's hard to say, though. | |

I don't think we'd be any "better" or "worse" than we are with men in power. Some women would no doubt do a better job, while others would do worse. It really depends on the particular politics and convictions of the individual (not their sex). When you look at the three most significant female names in politics right now (Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Sarah Palin) you have to ask yourself would any of these three women be doing a better job at running the country than Barrack Obama? I'm forced to say no. That's not to say that there aren't women in politics that are superior politicians than men (including the current President who is really only a mediocre President as it stands). But I really don't think Clinton would be doing a much better job than Obama right now and she'd be even more hated by conservatives. Pelosi would be doing much worse (considering her record in the House) and Palin would have completely destroyed us by now! If Palin was President, Don't Ask Don't Tell would not have been repealed because she is a die hard, right-wing "Christian" who doesn't give a shit about gay rights, just like the rest of them. Palin and Pelosi have both used the expression "man up" towards male counterparts demonstrating the sexist double standard that women can get away with in politics. If any male politician said something similar about a female, that would be the end of his political career forever! Saying all this to say that I don't think sex is as much a factor in who would be better in power. | |

| The idea that a woman running the country would steer the social climate into a more rational and temperate state is more a facetious quip than the truth. Since that's based on the stereotype of women being more sensible than men, one could also allege that a woman in charge might result in the country coming off as hesitant and indecisive. | |
