Describe Your Journey to Work Empty
PostSubject: Describe Your Journey to Work   Describe Your Journey to Work EmptyMon Jan 17, 2011 8:30 pm

Feel free to interpret the question however you want, but if you're stuck for inspiration then maybe start by answering these questions: How do you travel to work? Do you travel alone, or with others? How long does it take? What route do you take? Do you pass anything interesting on the way? What's your favorite part of the journey? (If you don't work, pick any other regular journey you make such as traveling to school, college, church, etc.)

PostSubject: Re: Describe Your Journey to Work   Describe Your Journey to Work EmptyMon Jan 17, 2011 8:45 pm

How do you travel to work?
I ride a bicycle six miles from Miami Beach to Miami.

Do you travel alone, or with others?
On a bicycle - alone.

How long does it take?
In neutral wind half an hour. Wind in my face 40 minutes. Wind on my back 25 minutes.

What route do you take?
Over the Kennedy Causeway, with two tall drawbridges.

Do you pass anything interesting on the way?
Miami Skyline across Biscayne Bay. Sometimes see mannatees or dolphins in the bay. There are some ppl I pass each day. Don't know them but we see each other every day at the same time.

What's your favorite part of the journey?
Depends on the weather, but cool, not too hot, not raining, maybe a slight breeze to my back. Both coming and going the sun is to my back - glad it's not reversed.

I don't leave the house for work, as I work at home, so it's all pretty simple!

My drive to work is pretty simple. I don't pass anything interesting or travel with anyone, but I'm there in 7 or 8 minutes.

I just jump on the expressway and from there have to merge onto a second one. Then get off at the third exit. Takes me about 15 minutes (when it aint snowing) to get to work.

Describe Your Journey to Work Empty
PostSubject: Saw Justice Today on Way to Work   Describe Your Journey to Work EmptyTue Jan 18, 2011 10:26 am

Today on my bike ride in, I was in the School Zone, with flashing yellow light and a 15 MPH sign. Now my top speed is 15 MPH so I keep up with the cars on this stretch.

The woman in front of me slows to the legal speed limit, but this jerk in a pickup truck is in a hurry so he speeds around her, like she is just a slow driver blocking his important schedule.

I think the usual when seeing the many, many scofflaws on the roads here "why isn't there a cop around at times like this?" In fact looking down the road at the white car coming toward us I thot, why can't that be a cop.

Just then the blue lights came on that car. It was a cop and the pickup was being pulled over. yay

It made my morning! It is so rare to see such a timely traffic bust. As I biked by I thanked the cop thru her open window and yelled at the jerk 15 Miles Per Hour in a school zone.

I'm Still Hyped!

I wish I had the luxury of a highway like some of the rest of you. Me, I have to drive down this very long, busy street that every other working driver is crowded on. In the spring, summer & fall, there's routinely road work going on, which just makes the commute even slower. Takes me about twenty-five minutes to drive to and from work.

Take the E train from Jamaica Center to Lexington and 53rd, transfer to the 6 train going downtown, get off at Bleecker Street. Once I'm on the train, it takes about 40-45 mins. Can't stand it. I need to transfer out of Manhattan so I can start driving to work every day.

Describe Your Journey to Work Empty
PostSubject: Re: Describe Your Journey to Work   Describe Your Journey to Work EmptyTue Jan 18, 2011 11:13 pm

Nothing really interesting on my commute except for how long the incoming traffic is, as I go against traffic both ways. I take one of the busier streets down to the highway and stay on the highway for maybe 5 minutes, then take an exit off the highway to get to work. That's going to change, though, as they're shuffling things around and I"m not sure where I'll end up - which school. They need someone with expertise in an area I don't have - someone who can build a program for a SEVERALLY autistic child who is non-verbal and almost non-communicative. My work is mainly with older children who are high functioning, so it wasn't the best match, which means I'll be changing schools and will have a new commute.

PostSubject: Re: Describe Your Journey to Work   Describe Your Journey to Work EmptyTue May 03, 2011 2:57 pm

My job is close to my house; the negative side to that is that I live in a business community, which means lots of street traffic. On a clear traffic day, I could get to my job in less than ten minutes. On a busy morning/afternoon, it takes me anywhere from ten to twenty.
