Re: The 1980s discussion thread
Most of the 80's were pretty good for me. I would have enjoyed it more if I were younger, but in my 30's I could still relate to some of it.
In the earlier to mid-80's Portland had a heavy jazz scene but it petered out by the end of the decade, replaced by blues. Nightclubs in general, all kinds of music, were at its peak then ~ even Country had some hot spots. And disco was still very active into the mid-80's (clothes just weren't as outrageous as in the 70's).
I liked the colorfulness. When neon colors hit the clothes racks after a decade of boring "earth" tones, I went nuts with it. Lots of the styles were interesting; some I miss, others were just crap.
Liked the crazy jewelry but hated the frizzy-ass tight perms (to this day) and the bushy eyebrows and matte makeup. Wild hair bows. Bows everywhere, even around the ankles.
Liked most of the popular music. MTV. Boom boxes. Cds phased into replacing vinyl, and outrage over the costs are probably the start of sales decline.
Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places, Porky's. . . lots of funny movies. Miami Vice was a favorite TV show of mine, but I really hated most of the corny family shows (though I liked "Cosby" and "Roseann").

I wish I were like 10 years older in the 80's. Would've had a blast.

80's had some of the worst fashion trends ever!! So glad I came of age in the 90's.

Re: The 1980s discussion thread
No particular year of that decade stands out for me. The 80's all-around was a pretty good period for me. Some things I liked it about it, others I didn't.
