Partly him and other bureaucrats who turned a blind eye to the monied interests (banks, realtors, Wall St) that were greedily making big profits on shaky investments that were worthless. Same as it was in the "Roaring Twenties" of the last century. We have never learned from past experience so we are doomed to repeat it.

I'd say that a large part of the national debt are due to his polices and although that debt is a grave issue, it wasn’t what caused the “financial meltdown” in 2008. That was a bi-partisan fuck up with plenty of blame to go around on both sides of the aisle. It’s a big shit sandwich and we’re all going to have to take a bite.

I think it was a combination of things and people and policies. Bush really didn't help things, but neither did his advisers and those around him. We were lucky in Canada, though - we didn't feel it as badly, but we did feel it.
