Eva Green Cast as Witch Angelique. She certainly does not look like the Angelique that is my Avatar but maybe she will dye her hair blonde.

Eva Green has been cast in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows. In the film she will play the witch Angelique, who spurned by Barnabas Collins, curses him with vampirism out of revenge.
"Green, who made a most memorable impression when she broke James Bond's heart in Casino Royale as Vesper Lynd, is negotiating to play the role of Angelique. In the series, she was a powerful witch who was alternately tormented and bewitched by her love-hate relationship with Barnabas Collins. Depp will play Collins. Lara Parker played the role in the original Gothic horror soap. The French-born actress most recently starred oppposite Ewan McGregor in the romantic thriller Perfect Sense, the Sundance title just acquired by IFC."

I definitely want to see this. Liking the idea of Depp as Barnabas. Not quite so sure about Angelique. The original actress had those eyes that I thought added to the characters mystique.

The original Angelique was beautiful, I saw a lot of re-runs of Dark Shadows until they took it off and from what I recall she was totally convincing as a Witch. Your right about her eyes. I liked the show so much I bought the entire series on DVD and plan on watching it soon before the movie comes out.

I saw an actress on tv earlier today I think would have been better than the one they cast. No offense to her, I've never even heard of her but she just doesn't have the Angelique look to me. Emily Blunt would have been closer to her. I say "her" as if Angelique were real lol

Eva Green may totally pull it off but she looks more "Twilighty" to me. Angelique had this combination of beautiful, evil, mysterious, frightening but still sympathetic at times. Fascinating character.

I agree. Even in the 1991 revival the choice of Lysette Anthony was a good choice. This one, I don't know. I hope they have the original Angelique in some kind of minor role that would be great!

I don't think you can go too far wrong casting Johnny Depp in just about any role.

Michelle Pfeiffer is currently in negotiations to star opposite Johnny Depp in the new Tim Burton movie Dark Shadows, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Pfeiffer hasn't worked with Burton since 1992's Batman Returns where she played Catwoman.

The Warner Bros film is an adaptation of the 1960s gothic vampire soap opera.

Pfeiffer would play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the matriarch of the Collins family - a vampire family who runs the town.

Shooting for Dark Shadow is set to begin in April.

Helena Bonham Carter And Michelle Pfeiffer Join 'Dark Shadows'
After spending years in development, "Dark Shadows" is finally taking shape. Not only is longtime Tim Burton collaborator Johnny Depp on board for the lead role of 200-year-old vampire Barnabas Collins, but a slew of other actors – Jackie Earle Haley and Eva Green, to name a few – have also joined the fray.
Now, two more names are hopping aboard Burton's adaptation of the 1960s gothic soap, and they're familiar ones. Helena Bonham Carter, Burton's partner and a regular presence in the director's recent string of films, is confirmed for a role in "Dark Shadows."
That news shouldn't come as much of a surprise. No, it's the other
name that's considerably less expected: "Batman Returns" actress Michelle Pfeiffer is reuniting with Burton for the movie as well.

Deadline
reports the casting, stating that Pfeiffer has been locked in for the
role of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard. She is the matriarch of the Collins
clan and the owner of Collinwood mansion, where much of the action of
"Dark Shadows" takes place.
Carter, meanwhile, is "in line" to play Dr. Julia Hoffman, a
psychologist who specializes in rare blood disorders. After moving to
Collinwood, Hoffman initially poses a threat towards the vampire
Barnabas, but the two eventually reconcile their differences as she
searches for a way to cure his bloodlust.
Some might roll their eyes at the thought of yet another
Burton-Carter collaboration, but with the phenomenal Pfeiffer joining an
already impressive cast lineup, we're certainly willing to give both of
them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

'Dark Shadows' Fall On Jackie Earle Haley & Bella Heathcoate



It appears that Tim Burton's long developing film adaptation of "Dark Shadows" is finally moving forward. After several fits and starts, the "Alice in Wonderland" director and frequent collaborator Johnny Depp
are looking set to start filming in the spring, and production is
moving along at such a pace that additional actors are landing roles.
Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcoate are the latest to come aboard the project, it seems. Deadline reports that the "Watchmen" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" actor is in talks to play Willie Loomis, while Heathcoate is on tap for the pivotal role of Victoria Winters.
For those who aren't familiar with "Dark Shadows," the film is based
on a 1960s television soap opera featuring all sorts of supernatural
creatures including vampires, werewolves, ghosts and witches. In other
words, plenty of material that's right up Burton and Depp's alley. The
series largely focused on Barnabas Collins, an ancient vampire who
encounters all sorts of these oddities. That role belongs to Depp,
naturally.
Haley signing on as Loomis is a particularly intriguing development.
The character, described by Deadline as "a notorious con artist," was
the man responsible for opening Barnabas' coffin and freeing the vampire
from his slumber. As a result, Barnabas puts Loomis to work as his
errand boy and object of abuse. The dynamic between Depp and Haley is
going to be crucial to this film's success, and there's no reason to
doubt that both of these guys are up for the challenge. Plus, it's fun
thinking about Haley operating under Burton's unique guidance, isn't it?

Australian actress Bella Heathcote is in "early talks" to take on the female lead in Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp says Variety. Tim Burton's
directing the film version of the '60s TV series which involved a sexy
vampire named Barnabas Collins (played by Jonathan Frid) and featured
werewolves, ghosts, and other creatures that go bump in the night.

Depp's set to play Barnabas and Heathcote would play a waitress named
Victoria who Barnabas is attracted to because he thinks she's the
reincarnation of his lost love.

Dark Shadows has another cast member. Deadline reports that director Tim Burton has hired Gulliver McGrath to play the role of David Collins in his upcoming film Dark Shadows. Word is that Burton has his sights on Michael Sheen to play the boy’s father, Roger Collins. The young Australian actor made it to the finals for the lead in Martin Scorsese‘s Hugo Cabret, then got a small role after the job went to Asa Butterfield. The role of David Collins was originated in the 1960s gothic soap opera by David Henesy, and then Joseph Gordon-Levitt played him in the 1990 series revival. Johnny Depp heads a cast that includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Bella Heathcoate, Jackie Earle Haley and Eva Green, with Helena Bonham Carter also expected to join. Seth Grahame-Smith wrote the script.

Chloe Moretz Joins Movie Cast







Deadline New York reports that Chloe Moretz has joined the cast of the new Dark Shadows
movie to play Carolyn Stoddard, the daughter of Collinwood matriarch
Elizabeth Collins Stoddard. The character was originally portrayed by
Nancy Barrett. At 14 years of age, Moretz is the youngest actress to
play the role (Carolyn was 18 years old in Dark Shadows' earliest episodes).


Chloe is best known for her roles in the cult superhero movie Kick Ass and Let Me In. She will also be seen in Martin Scorsese's upcoming film Hugo Cabret, in which Johnny Depp appears. Speaking to MTV
at the Annual Comedy Awards last week, Moretz teased: "I just booked a
huge project last night… it's huge! It's big, and it's crazy, and it
involves some really cool actors."

Movie to Feature Young Barnabas







Deadline New York reports that Thomas McDonell has been cast to play a young Barnabas Collins in the new Dark Shadows movie. The actor is soon to be seen in the upcoming Disney film Prom, and has appeared in Twelve and The Forbidden Kingdom. Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jackie Earle Haley in a Tim Burton production is pretty much the A-team. I never saw the series on TV, but the movie sounds like a must see.

I have been waiting for this movie for a long time!

Millions of people, and yes, it is millions, in many countries will experience Barnabas Collins, Collinwood and the Dark Shadows world for the very first time. At the time of production, the original show was often dismissed as a fad – a little fluke in television history that sprung out of a creative team scrambling for a new direction as their stories failed to catch on. It enjoyed, by soap opera standards, a brief, vibrant run, but was undoubtedly a happy accident, rather than the product of a cohesive version.

In the 35 years since the show left the air, Dark Shadows has been a bit of a sleeper hit. Its actors and fan community are justifiably proud of the series, and perhaps sometimes a little over-protective. The original episodes tend not to be slow-paced, but do have long scenes typical of that era's as-live productions. To hear Johnny Depp – one of the world's most bankable, acclaimed actors – paying sincere tribute to the talents of Jonathan Frid sweeps aside any number of trivial worries about gaffes or forgotten lines. Whatever the merits of the finished movie, no one ever need apologise for Dark Shadows again.
