    I saw it last Friday

The opening credits mentioned that this movie was based on the daytime TV Goth soap opera of the same name. I have nothing to compare here because from 1966 to 1971 I was a young man who had more fun things going on in my life than TV.

But, I did run into a guy named Scott whom I often see at these Friday matinees and he is of that generation who were teenagers running home to watch this show and he said it did keep true to some of the characters. (I also read an online review by a guy who was immersed in Dark Shadows on TV and he agreed it was, with some faults, an OK movie)

It was a fun romp and I enjoyed the long scene opening in 1972 - with the Moody Blues 'Knights in White Satin' playing. I was around then and while not watching much TV, I was listening to the music and maybe watched a couple of lava lamps. It was like I had just come out of a coffin into a familiar past.

Having seen a lot of the original show on Syfy I wanted to see the movie but I am still a bit skeptical. Maybe this weekend.

Based on the TV advertisements I guess I was expecting more of a comedy. It had comedic elements but it's more what I should have expected from Tim Burton. I don't know if they've tried to set up a sequel.

They took "liberties" but I don't think it was as big a slap in the face as some die hard fans may think.

I saw the movie last night and I have to admit that it was better than I thought it would be. Depp made a very dapper Barnabas, a bit theatrical but it worked. I was a bit disappointed in the ending but I figured they left it open for a possible sequel. I did see the original Maggie Evans and Quentin in their cameos but didn't see the original Barnabas or the original Angelique in their cameos, they must have flashed by real quickly. I am glad I saw it.

I do agree that the ending seemed rushed and that final scene with Mrs. Burton does make me think there could be a sequel.

I kind of hope there is a sequel. Yes that ending with Mrs. Burton was a bit bizarre I wonder what that was all about.
