I LOVED this book, what it is is it opens up with the kinds of villains that were seen in the first movies ever made and carries through from the silent movies to the serials to the early westerns and crime/mysteries and war movies and monsters and goes all the way to James Bond where it ends because the book was written in 1964. It gives a real insight on what movie villains have consisted of, and they weren't always what you'd expect.
There were some passages in the book that point out the heroes aren't always the good guys, that in one of Rudolph Valentino's movies, his character rapes a woman and he's the hero, and then in a western, I can't remember the name, the 'hero' gunslinger, kills the outlaw and he gets hanged for it.
Has anybody else read this book?
