Do you remember your first plane ride? Where did you go, and did you enjoy it? Are you, or have you ever been, afraid to fly?

Re: Your first plane ride
My first flight was down to Florida. 3 hours. Nothing too extreme. This was luckily before the migraine disorder kicked in years later. I loved it at the time, but I've hated it every time there after. Of course, the Florida trip was also before 9/11. I seem to recall that the "security" made entering a Best Buy look difficult.
Of course, almost every flight I've taken since then has been international to Frankfurt (or Dublin or Iceland for layovers), so I dunno how flying domestically works post-9/11. I assume it's probably just as obnoxious, though. The second you land in Europe, you realize how much more complicated it is living in a country with a target on its back. Getting in and out of Dublin or Frankfurt is as easy as walking through a door.

Re: Your first plane ride
I don't like to fly and am about to take a train trip to St. Louis by way of Wash. DC & Chicago just to avoid a few hours in the sky (if one is lucky and don't spend half a day on a runway).
I flew a lot during the golden era of flying in the "60s and '70s, when you were treated courteously by pretty women on the plane, served real food for long flights and if the flight was delayed, put up in a hotel in downtown Paris for the night. Now it is more like airborne Greyhound.
My first flight was in 1964, going from St. Louis to Turkey. I had to fly to Chicago - O'Hare on a DC-3, a beautiful old two prop plane designed in the late '30s and the workhorse of air transport in WWII. They are still flying today and have a distinctive sound so I always look up in amazement at this beautiful, durable aircraft.
From Chicago I flew a Boeing-707 to Istanbul. Made a couple of trans-Atlantic flights going to India in the '70s. And flew on another DC-3 in Centro America on a local flight.

Re: Your first plane ride
First and ONLY plane ride was not a ride TO anywhere, just up, up and circling around for about an hour, that was when I was 9, and it was very exciting but I wouldn't want to do it again.

I flew to Atlanta when I was 20 and that was my first. I really liked it. Now, I don't mind flying too much, but it does make me more nervous.

My first plane ride was about 4 yrs old. I remember me and my mother flew to SC. We flew quite a bit during the 80's because the tix were cheap. I have no fear of flying at all.

Re: Your first plane ride
Now that I think about it I'm not certain when my first plane ride was. I think I was around 16 when I visited relatives in Chicago. I guess it was uneventful.

Re: Your first plane ride
I've never been all that afraid to fly. I think my first plane ride was when I was 8 or 9. We went to Seattle. It was a fairly irritating ride because it took 4 hours to get there (which is a long time for a kid!) and my blind grandmother kept asking me to look at her watch and tell her what time it was. And she embarrassed this guy too - she unknowingly had her arm so far out into the aisle that she accidentally touched this guy's crotch who was passing by.

Re: Your first plane ride
My first time on a plane was flying to Los Angelas to visit relatives. I was age 6 at the time. It was also my parents first time on a plane, I remember it being very "new" and "exciting" for all of us.
