That Hell-Bound Train by Robert Block
Sort of like "The Devil Went Down To Georgia on Amtrack". A young man makes a deal with The Conductor of the train that goes to the "Depot Way Down Yonder".

Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut
Political correctness on steroids.

The Monkey's paw by W.W. Jacobs
Be careful what you wish for. You might get it.

A Boy and His Dog by Harlan Ellison
A teenage boy named Vic and his telepathic dog, Blood, wonder through a post apocalyptic world.

Ellison based Blood on his own dog that he wrote of in The Deathbird, a story about global euthanasia and how “The Devil” got the shaft in the history books.

I'm not big on short stories, I don't remember most of the ones I've read, but I'm seconding The Monkey's Paw
