Do any of you know someone who disappeared?

Not literally, of course, but have you ever known someone whose whereabouts later became a complete mystery to everyone? Either they were abducted or just took off and left, leaving no trail behind.

Yep my Uncle Carmine he disappeared for 20 years before re-surfacing and no one knew where he was other than he was alive.

We do have a friend who has struggled with drug abuse since high school, in and out of rehab 4 times who we thought was making a better go of it...Got married, had three boys, and then when his oldest boy was 10 he and his wife got divorced, he went back on drugs and disappeared

He was the best mad at our wedding and now we haven't seen or heard from him in probably 3 years. The sad thing is, we wouldn't be surprised if he were a John Doe somewhere, because his addictions were just really bad.

Thankfully no. The closest we came to that was my one brother-in-law in Texas. We knew he and his partner were having a hard time financially and there were some extensive periods when he wasn’t responding to phone calls or emails. He’s been better about that recently.

No personally, no, but there was a little boy who disappeared from my hometown years ago and was never found. It was a pretty scary time, as he was playing at a playground and just vanished and that was... 20 years ago now, I think? Something like that. I didn't know the family, but I do remember the search and how out community still meets each year to hold a run in his name to raise money for the Missing Children's Society.

LOL could have been!

My son's paternal grandfather was like that. He was an alcoholic and would be living in shelters in Pennsylvania and none of his kids were there, so it was never known at any time where he was for sure. Now, he hasn't been in contact with anyone for over a decade, so it is assumed he is dead, though nothing comes up via searches for an obit in any state it is suspected he could have lived.

Another case I will always remember is when I first moved to this city, a college freshman disappeared. That case has never been solved in all these years.
