PostSubject: Why does the date for Easter change every year?   Why does the date for Easter change every year? EmptyWed Mar 02, 2011 2:54 am

Another thing that makes no sense to me whatsoever...one year it's in March, another it's April, this year it's very LATE April, the 24th, meanwhile we get Daylight Savings Time in less than 2 weeks, maybe I'm wrong but aren't the two usually close together, like maybe a week apart? But why is it Easter jumps around every year? Why don't they pick one date in one month and stick with it, like they finally did with Thanksgiving?

Because the supposed occurance that it celebrates has no definitive date. So instead Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox, unless the full moon is on the equinox in which case it is after the following full moon.

Because cellphones didn't have calendars when Jesus was being crucified.

Some sources say that it has to do with the ancient Jewish calendars. Jesus was allegedly crucified during the Jewish Passover, which is observed according to lunar cycles.

Other sources say that it's connected to ancient pagan rituals involving the moon. Christian traditions often blended with pagan traditions. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
