| I've never done it and I never intend to. I am not an outdoors person unless that outdoors is a few hours on the beach. | |

| Well, I have never camped at a campground but I have camped a lot at races on the weekends for years. So, there is a big group and racing going on so everyone has fun. I don't think I would like to just be the three of us for a whole weekend at a campground. Because after playing board games, I don't know what else there would be to do. | |

| I have enjoyed nature and the outdoors in my youth but haven't recently gone camping.
In the '60s I took a Boy Scout troop out camping in the woods of Maryland and it was a great experience for them, but anyone not a boy will find 'sleeping in a tent' not such an accurate term. We also camped out at Gettysburg National Park, but that was with a lot of other troops and more a Scouting event.
In 1970 I built a shack in the woods at my dad's place in Mississippi and lived there for a while - no running water, no electricity, cooking on open fires.
Also in the '70s I have slept in a hammock strung between coco palms in Tulum Mexico, right next to the Caribbean Sea and cooked on fires made with coconut husks.
Lived in a thatch roofed cabaňa in Guatemala for a month on the banks of Lago Peten Itza, where there was no running water or electricity and we cooked on open fires. Swam out in the lake each evening to get our drinking water, away from the shore where bathing and laundry took place.
We call it camping but lots of ppl in the world just live this way. I think every kid should have the experience. Especially now and leave all cell fones, iPads and other electronics in the city. Nothing like soft lighting from burning hydrocarbon, with the sounds of nature all around you - or silent.

Go look for snakes or turtles or poison ivy.
Srsly, camping in the woods is its own entertainment. Lots that kids can and should learn about making fires and cooking on them to putting up a shelter. See what there is to eat, make sumac tea, nibble on greenbriar (tastes like asparagus) find poke weed in the spring or sassafras tea. I wish I had it in me to take him camping like that, but I would be miserable and really not know what to do. He would have the time of his life, I am sure.

| That's a joke, right? The only camping we ever do is out in the front yard when it's too hot to sleep in the house. | |

| We used to camp (i.e. sleep in tents and cook over a fire) before the kids arrived and after when they between about 5 and 11. We didn't exactly rough it as our camp sites had running water and electricity for the radio and coffee maker. It was usually around Labor day for a long weekend so no one had time to go stir crazy. My wife learned a neat trick to make an oven from a cardboard box when our daughter was in the Brownies so we could have lasagna, apple brown Betty and such. | |

| When our kids were young we had very little money, so we camped a lot. I would would bake cakes pies, cook up things ahead of time. Pack the food we would need for the weekend , the utensils, etc. Time would pack the camping gear and off we would go for a weekend of fishing, swimming, hiking, and eating. When we went to Alaska we camped all the way, the same when we immigrated to Canada to the Yukon Territory. 2 of the kids still liked camping as they got into their teens, but Time and myself and oldest girl had had all we wanted of camping. He would still take the 2 youngest now and then, but I got to stay home. They did all still enjoy fishing if they didn't have to spend the weekend doing it. | |

Now, now, we'll have none of that. Seriously, though, no.

| As Suzi said, we spent a lot of time camping when the kids were young but not any more. My comfort becomes more precious as I get older. When I was 51, I started riding a mountain bike as my Doctor suggested to build muscles around my unstable knees. I got hooked on the sport and lived in a place where there were unending mountain trails to explore so I did. Now we enjoy nature on Discovery channel from the safety of my recliner. | |

LOL. I've been fishing before and I wanna go camping one day, but just to say that I've done it. It might be fun, but I doubt I'd make it a habit.

| Nah....I'm good. I got a lighter, so we don't need to rub sticks together.....we can order fish at the restaurant....and why fuck with a tent when there's a Ramada up the street? Unless we talking about morning wood, damn nature. | |
