| Hi everyone,
Uncle Al's genius post got me thinking on this one. Do you think that madness and genius have a natural connection?
I personally think madness and genius can be connected, but that it's not always the case. I do think, however, that the source of genius is more likely to come from someone who is mad rather than from someone who is mentally stable and basically normal. | |

| I definitely think there is a connection because the people we look back and say 'wow, what a genius, they were so ahead of their time, they were (whatever)', they are seldom appreciated in their own time and often written off as just being nuts or weird. | |

| I don't know if John Nash and Howard Hughs were considered genius but they were very prominent psych cases. | |

| I think there is a connection, but both can also occur on their own. Many of those considered to be geniuses struggled with mental health issues. I wonder if anyone has ever done studies looking into this. They'd be very interesting to read!!!! | |

| HBO recently aired one of their documentaries, this one about Bobby Fisher. I don't know if any of you remember him even if you were alive when he defeated Boris Spassky for the world chess championship in 1972. Anyway, the point was touched on that many former champions had mental "flaws" and he was certainly no exception. | |
