How comfortable are you speaking in front of groups? Not casual banter where everyone is an equal, but rather you hosting the discussion. Are you at ease, does it make you only slightly nervous, or does it terrify you?

Re: Speaking in front of groups
I got used to giving oral reports in school and it carries over. I teach an AIDS class to 30 or more ppl sometimes and I have been on panels for gay rights groups in a college town so it is just a matter of knowing your stuff and presenting it as if you were just talking to someone - but it is a bunch of someones.

I am in the middle with it. I don't do it often enough to do it well, but I am not a wreck either.

Anyone who's not used to doing this, it's going to make you nervous. I'm attending the USAF NCO Academy right now and part of our curriculum is to give oral presentations, briefings and have group interpersonal meetings that are obvserved by the rest of the class. Basically, you have to do speech after speech! Most people are not naturally comfortable talking in front of large crowds when there is an organized structure to what they are supposed to be saying. It takes much practice in order to get used to it.Chris wrote:How comfortable are you speaking in front of groups? Not casual banter where everyone is an equal, but rather you hosting the discussion. Re: Speaking in front of groups
Months ago someone (sorry but I can't recall who...JB?) posted that they were asked to make a presentation at work and they weren't looking forward to it. I was wondering how it went.

Re: Speaking in front of groups
Getting up in front of people doesn't bother me at all. Hell,, I can talk to anyone about anything. My theory is if you don't like what I'm talking about don't listen. All the speaking classes in college to me was a total breeze. Easiest classes I ever took. I know it's a nerd thing, but I was on the debate team at BSU and loved it. So talking in front of people just comes naturally to me.

Re: Speaking in front of groups
It's not my favorite thing to do, and I wouldn't volunteer for it....but I can do alright if I HAVE to.
