    We can all guess what Shale's answer's going to be, but how about everyone else?



    I personally would never try it because some parts of my body haven't seen sunlight since I was a baby, and I can only guess too well how badly I'd burn even with lotion. And I like Rita Rudner's theory about it, with no tan lines, what would you have to compare your tan to, your eyeball?

    No I don't get artificial tans at all. One of the few GOOD things my dad gave me was his natural darker color.

    You all have a darker skin than those of us "white" folks, but you do tan.

    And if you are outside a lot will get the same "farmer" tan that we white skins get. Your face, neck and arms will be darker than your chest and back. So, unless you dress like a Berber (in which case your hands will still be darker) you might even go sunbathe to even up those tan lines like whitey.

    BTW, we didn't always have a nude beach here, so this 1984 foto shows that I really am white underneath this allover tan I have today.

    Plus, I'm happy with my coloring. I have no desire to be orange or wrinkled, and see nothing wrong with being pale even though society keeps telling me otherwise.

    Sorry, I can’t remember if I said this on another thread (tanning beds?) but back in the days of corsets and hoop skirts, upper class (white) women were expected to have “porcelain” complexions and walk around with parasols to stay out of the sun. If you were “white” and had any color it usually meant it was because you had to work and that often meant being outdoors. Then many people shifted to working in factories and offices and it was the idle rich who made it fashionable to have a tan.

    'Us' tanning as a result of being out in the sun isn't the same as laying out in the sun with the intention of getting darker. 'Us' melanin endowed people people don't need to intentionally burn our skin for the sake of vanity. God gave it to 'us'.
