    Yesterday I brought up the woman who was nursing her daughter at age 8. Look at what else I just found...

    The doll is supposed to be used to promote breastfeeding, to show kids that it is normal and natural.

    The child wears a colorful bra-like halter-top with flowers over the nipple area. When the doll is lifted to the flowers, it makes a suckling motion and sound. When the child’s flower nipples grow sore and cracked, either the baby cries for more, or beckons to be burped.

    Right now the doll is sold out in Spain and I believe but there are talks of making an American version.

    I wouldn't be okay with my 5 year old having a doll that calls for her to use her chest as part of the fantasy.

    I find this "doll" distasteful and inappropriate. I wonder if there will be a "doll" marketed that allows a child to strap on a false belly and "give birth" to a newborn doll. I also never cared much for "Betsy Wetsy" but at least that type of doll does not encourage a premature focus on the owner's nipples.

    Children are growing up too fast already, I see no need further shorten the time that is devoted to dress up and make believe. There's plenty of time after puberty for a young adult to learn about breast feeding.

    Kids whose parents breastfeed already pretend to breastfeed their dolls, just like the ones whose parents bottle feed pretend to bottle feed their babies.

    I think it's a pointless doll for the most part. The ONLY thing that I would be interested in it for, would be to normalize breastfeeding. My daughter asked me, 'Mommy, why don't you feed our babies the regular way?" She's watched me nurse her 4 siblings, and yet bottle feeding is so prevalent that she thinks it's the "normal" way to feed a baby. Giving dolls bottles just reinforces that message.

    Other than that I just think it's a waste of money.

    Definitely not needed in the market. Kids do grow up too fast and that is just too much.

    The Spanish seem to be more comfortable with natural kid toys than Americans - like these dolls that I saw in a Miami store window years ago

    I had those dolls! My Mom had them from somewhere and gave them to me. I think they still are at the house.

    I think you all are funny. How is pretending to feed a baby "inappropriate"? You must be the same people who thinks it's inappropriate to nurse a baby where someone might see. laughing

    As someone already said, kids emulate their parents. Little girls have likely been pretending to nurse their dollies for hundreds of years. I find it far more inappropriate to teach a child that human babies should be fed artificial milk out of an artificial container.

    Well my three older siblings were all breast fed but I was a bottle baby, so I'm kind of on the fence here...that said, as a kid I had no use for 'lifelike' dolls, I didn't want one that wet itself and needed cleaning, the closest I wanted was one who 'eats' things or stands on its head, and I think I'd limit my kids' dolls to around that area as well.

    Advocating nursing to a demographic of six year old girls (via baby dolls) is a bit overzealous. They see all the baby dolls on the market with attached bottles and get bent out of shape over it. This isn't about normalizing nursing to kids, it more about trying to even the score. Pander the breast feeding stance to grown women who're either expecting, or looking to conceive. A second grader playing dolls doesn't need to be pandered to.
