Remember back in school that one kid that ALWAYS had b.o. and who everybody talked about because of it?

What if a kid came to class to rank one day that it disrupted the class? Should the school have a right to send him home and not allow him back until he was hygienic? Or if they have showers, should they make him go take one? What you think, should hygiene be part of the "dress code"?

Yes, yes and yes. I don't think they should be overt about it and embarass the kid in front of his peers, but they definitely need to pull him/her to the side and speak to him/her and get it taken care of..............especially if his/her folks won't do it. You should know better than to send your child to school like that.

I worked with a kid who soiled himself on purpose because he knew it bothered people. What finally got him to stop was when we began sending him home for the rest of the day. Hygiene is important and if a kid smells so bad it's bother other people, I think he should be offered the chance to shower or at school or at home. Sometimes, it's an honest mistake. Try walking into a middle-school classroom after the kids have had PE. They haven't yet figured out that deodorant is WONDERFUL. I've heard many teachers encouraging kids to take regular showers.

I agree that in cases of foul natural odor, it should be addressed. I always wonder how I (or more so my clothing) smelled in grade school. Mom was a heavy smoker, so I think I must have really reeked of smoke every day. Nobody ever brought it up, but I wonder. In Jr. High, I was aware that it might smell of smoke, so I washed my stuff the night before usually.

If a kid is stinking up the class then he should be removed I think. If there ARE showers at the school, then yeah have him take one.

Yes, but only if they also talk to the kids who drown themselves in Axe body spray or other horrible scents. Those are just as disruptive. At least B.O. doesn't make me wheeze.

I run into several adults per week who never learned how to properly wear cologne/perfume. Too bad they didn't teach THAT in school. If I'm three feet away from you and can smell you, you have waaaaayyyy too much on.

Yeah - I agree about the Axe thing. They banned it in one school I was at because of allergis and the kids who seemed unable to apply it properly. They'd also spray in in the halls, so the school finally banned it as some kids were going home sick.

My Mom was the one who taught my to apply perfume.

Absolutely. I used to go to school with this girl who smelled like piss...and it wasn't just her, her brother (especially) and sister also had that same rank odor. Nobody wanted to sit next to them in class or on the bus.
