Game Of Thrones Empty Game Of Thrones

Post by DanaShelbyChancey Mon Apr 18, 2011 10:10 am

I decided HBO has so many shows that turn into blockbusters, I am getting in on the beginning with this one, Game of Thrones, fantasy based on novels I haven't read. I am into this kind of thing, because of loving the Kushiel's Legacy books.

The show was really well-done, with some beautiful shots. And I am interested in seeing out some of the introduced storylines. The TV Guide warned about sticking with it, even if you don't hook into all the characters right away; you will.

    I think I will.

I watched it, very good show so far. I wish I had started watching Camelot on Showtime that looks good too.

Anyone with HBO watch the first episode? They've already renewed for a second. If you don't know anything about the books I can see where it can get confusing. It's only been one episode but it was pretty faithful to the book so far.

I saw it. I posted on the TV Series A-M board but I'll hitch a ride here. I can see where there will be the potential for confusion because the story lines (in the novels) go off in many directions at once. Each chapter is told from a particular character's POV. Frequently, the chapter will end as a cliff hanger and you won't find out what happens for hundereds of pages. George R.R. Martin has published 4 of 7 novels with the 5th due out this July.

I think a 10 hour season should be adequate time to do a thorough job for the first book. My opinion so far is that they've been faithful from what I can remember, because so much happens and there are so many characters to keep track of in print. I've known who was going to be cast as the various characters for over a year. I don't know that they'll ever cast a film to satisfy your imagination.

Buckle up - they've been renewed for a second season already.

PS - If I forgot to make myself clear on the subject, read the books! They're great. My only advice is to read them slowly because it will probably be years until he comes out with #6.

I saw ep 2, and it broke my heart. I am much more of a softie when it comes to animals than people! But that Queen is going to get hers, I just feel it.

I haven't read the books, I rarely do both; watch a show/movie and read the book.

I think that blond kid is inbred. I think he is the product of that Queen and her brother.

Episode 3. Thoughts - questions? I'm filtering all this through images that I've had for awhile now. I envisioned the Dothraki as more...north African? Dressed in cloth, not animal skins. The depiction of The Wall is very good. Any predictions?

I have given up on it. I started watching ep 3 and found my interest flagging. No fault with the show, the production is beautiful. But it was so sad in so many ways.

Things like this I can be interested in, when reading.

If you're interested in this genre, I highly recommend the books! We started reading them on the recommendation of someone after they posted that HBO was making the show. I like it (the TV show) well enough even if I don't agree with some of the casting choices but if this were the only season (it won't be as it's already been renewed for next year) I wouldn't shed any tears. But Martin better finish the book series. The 5th finally comes out in July!

It's a story that you shouldn't get used to anything. Things are always changing.

Up until last night they've stayed pretty close to the books. What happened at the end of last night is the first time they deviated I think.

Tony. I plead with you to read the books, they're 1,000 times better. I can tell you this. They've started to diverge from them somewhat. For example, the dragons were never stolen, the 13 weren't slaughtered and Jon Snow wasn't captured like that. He was ordered to defect as a spy. It's been renewed for season 3. Just a word of advise. Don't get too attached to anyone!

Thanks Alan maybe I will look for the books for some summer reading if I can, I am sure they are quite better detailed. I can't believe the season finale is coming up what did they have like 8 episodes this season? True Blood will be starting up in its time slot.

They certainly are more detailed but it can be confusing too with all the characters. You learn that it's not necessary to remember them all. My fear is that this series will catch up to the books because he takes years between books.
